Veils, fractures, and the weight of memory.

Donya Kavoosi's practice moves between painting, mixed media, and installation—exploring the tension between concealment and exposure, the body and its echoes, the archive and its erasures.

Artist Statement

Working across layered surfaces, Donya constructs visual fields where figures appear, dissolve, and re-emerge. Her work is rooted in personal and collective memory, drawing from archival photographs, family narratives, and the quiet violence of displacement.

She studied fine arts and has since exhibited across Toronto and internationally. Her practice resists categorization—occupying the space between painting, installation, and social document.

Material, Body, and Residue

Through scraping, erasing, and overpainting, Donya treats the surface as a site of negotiation. Each layer becomes both a concealment and a trace—an index of what has been removed, withheld, or refused. The work resists a single reading, instead inviting viewers into a slow, intimate encounter.
